Reference Letter – TX family
When we started our adoption process we knew little about Giving Hope. They didn’t have a website, brochures, or information packets. They had an email address and phone number for Michelle See the co-founder and state side director of Giving Hope. We soon discovered why their time and efforts weren’t directed towards fancy sponsorship packets and media. It is because they embody the most pure example of caring for the orphan with all of their time and resources that we have ever seen.
As our family’s relationship has grown with the people behind the scenes of Giving Hope, I have learned a few things they would never boast about themselves. Things that speak of their great character and their selfless love of Christ and His children.
- Michelle See spends her days caring for her family and teaching school. She does not have to have a full-time job but works as a teacher to put diapers on babies, buy formula, and employ many native Haitians, who appreciate a good job with caring employers. She then has the task of answering mountains of emails, telephone calls, and face book messages. She helps families create dossiers so that they can be matched with adoptable children that NEED families. She sends out pictures, gives monthly updates, makes travel arrangements, and so much more while always speaking kindly when we think that it ALL revolves around us. She refuses a paycheck, sacrificing and giving generously to the Lord’s work.
- Heather Elyse spends her days caring for her family and running Giving Hope in Haiti. Her days start early and end late. She lives boldly and fearlessly for the Lord as she rescues the abandoned, loves the broken, and holds the dying. Heather has integrity, energy, and passion as she matches adoptable children with forever families. She meets each family at the airport, sends us pictures at midnight, and makes EACH family feel like we are the most special and loved. She does the “right thing” even when there is no room and it is not easy. She too works a full-time job, that she is able to do remotely, giving it all to run the crèche and its many financial needs.
- Giving Hope employs Haitian caregivers and nannies that “mother” the precious children. They miraculously get a countless number of toddlers all to sleep at the same time, keep meticulous feeding and diapering schedules, and do endless hours of hair. They show affection and love to the children, pray for them, and often stay up all night meeting needs.
- There is a full-time teacher who teaches the children in a creative learning environment. Missionaries serve, doctors and nurses care for special needs, women cook nutritious meals, workers care for maintenance, all the while two Haitian women wash ALL the clothes by hand and sing praises to the Lord.
A brochure could never capture what we have seen and what Giving Hope is and does for Haiti and her children. It is pure religion at it’s finest.
Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. James 1:27
